The Invention of Hugo Cabret follows our main character Hugo. Due to unforeseen circumstances in his life he becomes the assistant timekeeper in the Paris train station. After his uncle and mentor disappears he spends his day tirelessly caring for all of the clocks in the station. Stealing food when he needs it, and stealing parts to repair his secret machine. One day hes caught stealing parts from a toy vendor in the train station and his story begins to unfold.
This book has been on my reading list for years and one day my little brother walks in with a copy he borrowed from his school library. So I borrowed it and finished it in one day. This book is fantastic. Its the fresh imagination that I feel like isn't seen very often anymore in new books. The story is original and inviting, The characters are fantastically written, and the illustrations perfectly compliment the story and are beautiful. I highly recommend this book to anyone. Don't let its intimidating 533 pages scare you. Like I said I read it in a day and there are a lot of beautiful pictures. Please pick this up if you have the chance. Or if you don't. Just pick it up.
The Invention of Hugo Cabret gets 5 out of 5 stars
